1) How long have you been on DeviantArt? I've been on DeviantArt for six short years, after my friends at the time insisted I got one.
2) What does your username mean? Well, it's changed from salvainkarnan to destructiveempathy. Salvainkarnan was the name of a character from a book I wrote as a child. Destructiveempathy is the name I use more broadly online because of Will Graham from NBC's Hannibal.
3) Describe yourself in three words. Hyperactive, sleepy and obsessive. You may think the first two were contradictory, but hyperactivity is often followed by falling asleep where I sit.
4) Are you left or right handed?I am right handed.
5) What was your first deviation? This is the earliest listed on my account. I had an HB pencil and lined paper. I used my cheap mobile phone to get the picture onto the computer and a rubbish photo editor. So yes, I have improved quite a bit, but it might just be my resources. (I still often resort to photographing my traditional drawings.)
6) What is your favourite type of art to create?
I do two types of fanart, digital and traditional. Traditional gives satisfaction of having the physical thing in hand but looks better in person than on screen as details are lost. Digital is often clearer, easier to upload and I can do it in colour. So digital is my favourite.
In all honesty I'm best at fiction but I don't post that here.
7) If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be?
I'd love to be able to use oil paints on canvas because I think it's more complex and satisfying to have the best of both traditional and digital together.
8) What was your first favourite? My first favourite was the work of the friend that introduced me to this site. Though my tastes have shifted now, I can remember why I liked her art.
9) What type of art do you tend to favourite the most?I tend to favourite digital because I am drawn to colours and more photo-realistic styles. Again, it's mainly fanart, too as I prefer to see subjects I recognise in new situations.
10) Who is your all-time favourite deviant artist?Oh now you're asking... I have so many. Syrllirium and nowwheresmynut have done some of my most favourite pieces and consistently release great artworks on themes I enjoy. I even commissioned Syrillirium for a piece of art which exceeded expectations. Worth every penny.
11) If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be?I would love to meet any of the fine contributors of my group NBC-Hannibal-Fanart as their art is amazing and I would like to thank them in person for their additions to my group. But if I had to pick just one it would be FuriarossaAndMimma because they are always releasing art and are active members of the DeviantART community. I love their art and devotion to the Hannibal fandom.
12) How has a fellow deviant impacted your life?No one has directly affected me, but my art has been affected positively by the great words of critics who constructively commented on my art. One a long time ago advised me to use a wider range of pencil hardness to add more depth to my shading. Another gave me tips on how to use a scanner (but I lack a scanner right now).
13) What are your preferred tools to create art?Well, for my traditional I use series of graphite pencils from 4H to 6B and normal sketching paper. For digital I am now using Procreate on iPad and a Wamcom Bamboo stylus. I must admit it's more comfortable doing it on iPad.
14) What is the most inspirational place for you to create art?I would love to do my art outside in nature, perhaps a park. But I am clumsy so would likely ruin my art one way or another if I indulged. So I will remain in bed as I do my art.
15) What is your favourite DeviantArt memory? My favourite memory of this site isn't even while on deviantArt. It was drawing my first anime piece of Kakashi... something on my school field on a summer's day. I had friends around me and we were planning my profile. But there were many other great memories I've had on here and am glad to say I wouldn't miss it for the world.
