"Ahh Kirkwall, such a beautiful city. It's a shame it has such a dark history of bloodshed. But the stories I treasure most are those of the inhabitants. Before we land, Warden, do you wish to hear of the people you will likely meet? I, myself, have met them as a Seeker. 

Garrett Hawke: A brave and handsome man, he was born and raised in Lothering. - I admit, he flirted with me many times. I believe he did it purely to distract me from his apostate sister. Of course, I did not complain. - Being the eldest, he dedicated his life to protecting his little sister and training his brother to do the same, should Hawke die. He fought in Ostagar with his brother and almost suffered the same fate everyone else did. 

After Carver died, Hawke blaimed himself and fought even harder to protect his little sister. His remaining family, and Aveline, arrived at the City of Chains and he made his name as a smuggler. He always tries to find the right path, however, the approval of his friends weighs heavily on his shoulders. Perhaps this is why they all love him so dearly?  

Aveline Vallen: - I recall this beautiful and stern warrior from my time in Lothering, too. It is good to see all she has achieved... - She was an officer in the King's army when he fell, betrayed by the one he trusted most. She fled back to Lothering to find her Templar husband and the Hawkes. As they tried to flee the Darkspawn horde, her husband fell to the taint and she was forced to take his life. 

She reached Kirkwall and quickly rose to Captain of the Guard. Her broken heart mended over time, and she remarried. Considered family, she stayed by Hawke's side through it all. 

Varric Tethras: A great storyteller - or so I've heard - . He was a 'topsider' dwarf, with no beard and no wish for power of his own. He has given Hawke great opportunities, friends and advice, asking for nothing but a good tale in return. He has stayed by his best friend's side for many years, even executed his own brother for betraying them both.     

Bethany Hawke: A gentle apostate, she admired her brother very much before... before her fate. She only ever used her magic for good. - Sometimes I feel that, had the Maker not guided me from Lothering, I would have been able to help her. Stop her from going to Kirkwall. Stop her from... that. - Her fate broke Hawke's heart. He loved none as much as his little sister, and he wished, so many times, that the Maker had taken him in her place. 

Captain Isabella: - You have... met her, have you not Warden? - She is a Rivaini Pirate. Flirtatious and dangerous. She arrived in Kirkwall fleeing the Qunari who also landed there. No matter how much she flirts with Hawke, he refuses to lay beside her. He is true to his first love. - I apologise, I did not mean to imply you were not, Warden. -

However, when the opportunity to flee the Qunari arrived, she did not take it.  She respected Hawke too much. And for that, Hawke fought for her.  

Merrill: A Dalish elf. A blood mage. - Need I say more? - She sacrificed the very thing that made her an elf all to reclaim her people's past. So innocent, she is a danger to herself and others. But Hawke looks after her. She is like that little sister he lost and it breaks his heart to watch her use her magic in a way Bethany never would. 

Anders/Justice: - He was a friend, Hawke, was he not? And Grey Warden. - Two beings, an apostate and spirit of Justice, both combined in the hope to rid the world of the Chantry's 'corruption'. However, the human heart holds many dark places, and Justice found it. It became an entity of rage and vengeance. That is why we are here. You would not have cared had his heart remained pure and Justice stayed the friend you once knew.
